SAMPLE LETTER

[address]

Dear ___________

I am writing to you to express my deep concern about a South Korean citizen, Mr Yoo Sang-joon, who is scheduled to stand trial in court at an unspecified location in Inner Mongolia on Monday, 26 November 2007.

Mr Yoo is a former North Korean who watched his wife and youngest son die in the North Korean famine and then lost his 10 year old son in the Gobi desert while attempting to cross over from China to Mongolia. Deeply moved by the plight of children in North Korea, he has devoted himself to helping other refugees transit through China to safety.

Mr Yoo was arrested in Inner Mongolia in August of this year and is to stand trial this Monday, 26 November 2007.

I am gravely concerned about the possibility of his being forcibly returned to North Korea even though he is a South Korean citizen. Mr Yoo would most certainly be executed by the North Korean government as described by many sources, including the Times of London in its 18 November 2007 article ‘Death awaits Korea's escape mastermind’ (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article2891008.ece).

I am writing to ask the Chinese government to release Mr Yoo Sang-joon for immediate and safe deportation to South Korea.

Thank you for your attention to these concerns.
